WASHINGTON, September 21, 2009 (WAFA) - The World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors approved a project of $10 million grant for phase 1 of the Palestinian Municipal Development Program .

In a press release, the World Bank said the objective of the Municipal Development Program - Phase 1 in the West Bank and Gaza is to improve municipal management practices for better transparency.

There are four components to the project: the first is to provide grant allocations to municipalities for capital investments and service provision. The second is to support municipal innovations and efficiency by promoting amalgamation, energy savings and responsiveness to citizens. The third is to provide capacity building to municipalities and Municipal Development and Lending Fund (MDLF). The fourth is program management, including monitoring and evaluation, audits and technical assistance to municipalities in implementing sub-projects.
